I worked with a man who, when a young reporter, brought back a story about a house burglary that was one line too short for the space it was allotted in the newspaper. The editor told him to add a line to fill the space. The reporter checked his notes, and told the editor that he had used everything he had. The editor frowned, rolled the story into the typewriter, and typed at the bottom of the story "The house was set back a normal distance from the road."
