The Sandal

There are too many layers in this picture, which Yefim took, to properly dissect. The sandal is on the ground. The man's energy is oriented toward our left, but he is framed on the right, which gives a sense of profound disquiet. His bench is trapped between barriers. The common area is behind him. His expression is ambiguous but possibly anguished.

This is the finest picture of Yefim's I have ever seen.

Thanks, Whit. Thanks for looking at my photos. It is a hobby that is dear to me and I know to you as well, as you pictures as well are expressive and always personal.

The man in the picture is exhausted, I did not talk to him because we did not have a common language between us(this is taken in Shanghai). It was a very hot day, one of many very hot and very polluted days in Shanghai. Many people were sleeping outdoors, exhausted from the heat. There may be much more behind this moment for this man, but we will not know what that is.

The lucky Chinese are in air-conditioned and air-filtered buildings. The ones in the heat are left behind.
